Let’s leave 2016 behind us, shall we? It’s time for Baconsale to look into the future and talk about what we’re excited for (and what we’re dreading) in the year 2017. During this episode, we recap our predictions from last year, and then we discuss which movies we’re excited to see this year. We also predict celebrity deaths, TV shows that will be rebooted and the sexiest man alive. Plus, Jacob and Joel do their best to get Kent to Hulk out and be the villain, and we have a lively debate about the sound Wolverine’s claws.
Press play and see what this new year has to offer you!
How dare you bring up Lena Dunham, Joel.

I apologize. Kent brought up Lena Dunham. Sorry Joel!

Spider-Man is going to have way too much Iron Man in it. It’s going to slowly build, with jokes along the way, until a climactic battle that wraps everything up conveniently. Yay Marvel.

You’re not the only one he turned to the darkside when he made this Kentpoint timeline.

Chidwick makes a very strong argument. Jokes and a spectacular battle at the end makes for a great film. Yay Marvel indeed.

Oh come on, you . Can’t knock Marvel as formulaic for “slowly buildIn until a climactic battle, Since that is every movie, Whether the battle is with guns, fists, or words. It’s Not just a Marvel thing. A Few Good Men wouldn’t be the same with the You Can’t Handle the Truth scene at the beginning. Every Rom Com wouldn’t be as good if the rush to the airport happened in the first ten minutes followed by then being happy for the next 80 minutes. Isn’t the formula you describe also present in Mission Impossible, Bond, and Bourne movies?
LikeLike
Yeah but after 12 movies of the same stuff and each being proclaimed as an “amazing” super hero movie it gets kind of old. Bond definitely follows that same kind of track (but has been refreshingly different since Casino Royale if you ask me) as does mission impossible. Bourne was better and offered something a bit different until the last couple. Marvel refuses to adjust their formula regardless of the setup. The only one, in my opinion, that has gotten out of it was Captain America the Winter Soldier… but it still fell back into “oh black widow conveniently impersonated an old woman” and “I guess Nick Fury didn’t die from being shot by a ridiculous sniper rifle shot through the chest” or a “no, it makes perfect sense that Zola could magically make himself into an AI evil base with 1960’s computer tech”… all I want is for marvel to challenge people even a little bit. Kill of a character every once in a while when it makes sense! You could have easily killed off War Machine in the last movie (and let’s be honest you wimped out with following the comic book story in not killing Steve Rogers and having him be replace by Bucky as captain America). I’d just like to see some actual development of this Marvel Universe and not just the same movie characters in every film and the same basic, vanilla story lines where it always ends happily and there’s really no progress.

Galavant is awesome. Totally on Jacob’s side there, they should have got a third season at least.

My thoughts on the political landscape and social media so far this year: I. HATE. EVERYONE.
Kentpoint sucks. I’m totally with Kent on Eminem making a comeback and making fun of everyone. People I’d like to see him Eviscerate via rap: Amy Shumer, Lena Dunham, Madonna, Kanye, Meryl Streep, democrats who are “peacefully” accepting the results of the election the way they didn’t want Trump supporters to… Again, I hate everyone. Politics post over.

Ignore this comment. I’d much rather discuss pretty much anything else in the world than politics right now.

It’s taken me reading a few of these comments to actually get the joke, but “Kentpoint” is one of my favorite terms to ever come out of the show. Thank you sir. And yes, Kentpoint ruined everything.

In all seriousness, you being positive doesn’t bother me at all. You guys really are the best podcast I’ve listened to and I’ve listened to a lot of different ones trying to find one I like. I know I’m kind of a pessimist (and may be the naysayer you guys have talked about before.. I have my suspicions) but you guys are awesome.

Me playing along:
Nervous breakdown: Alec Baldwin – I know he has had them in the past, but I think he is due for a relapse. His Match game show host gig won’t do so well, and one thing will lead to another and he will fall off the wagon. He will not be running for office.
Celeb for Office: George Clooney. I think he will be looking at running for president, and will want to seek a lower office first, like congressman, senator or governor.
Box Office Hit: Star Wars: The Last Jedi
5 Movies I’m Anticipating – 5-Logan, 4- Wonder Woman, 3 – Beauty and the Beast, 2 – Spider-Man, 1 – Star Wars
5 Movies I will probably see in theater – 5 – Spider-Man, 4 -Wonder Woman, 3 – Lego Batman, 2 – Beauty and the Beast, 1- Star Wars’
There is a difference because A: I don’t see very many movies in the theater, and B: Very rarely do I see a movie without my wife and/or kids. So, I doubt I’ll get her to see Logan, so I’ll have to wait to see that on my own. The order is changed based on likelihood I’ll see a movie not my anticipation of it.
Honorable Mentions: Justice League (if Wonder Woman is good then we’ll probably see Justice League), Guardians of the Galaxy, War for Planet of the Apes, Cars 3, Dunkirk, Thor, Dark Tower
Celebs to Die: Johnny Depp – At least that is my hope, so that they will recast him in the next Fantastic Beasts movie, and it will stop him from making any more movies. Clint Eastwood – I don’t want him to die, but he will. Michael J. Fox – Will be the big one of 2017 that will cause the internet to explode.
Old TV Show to come back – I like the idea of quantum leap coming back, but I think it is going to be Perfect Strangers – Robespierre and Tucker will move in with each other after one graduates college and the other having dropped out of college to work at a tech startup, loses his job when the startup goes bust. Robespierre will be a New York business-man, and Tucker will be a west-coast hipster/classic millennial. Balki and Larry will make appearances.
Show to Start this Year – ???
Video Game or Tech this year- ???
Donald Trump Twitter War vs – Demi Moore
Movie I want to Flop this Year – EVERY JOHNNY DEPP movie. But at the very least Pirates of the Caribbean, but if Johnny Depp dies, then that movie won’t flop. I’d rather have Depp die than Pirates flop.
I liked Aeon Flux
Celeb that Needs a Comeback – Christina Ricci – I want her to get a great roll in a small Netflix Series that will become a huge success and she becomes a big moneymaker again.
Sexiest Man Alive – Ben Afleck will win for the second time.

Well, Mary Tyler Moore died. How did you not guess her?
Politics has gotten me to the point where I unfollowed almost everyone facebook. I’m so over it and I usually like politics!
Thanks for the future stuff, I’m kind of excited for this movie year now, but learned I shouldn’t be allowed in movie theaters from Joel’s facebook post 🙂

This year definitely looks better movie-wise than last year. Which will be nice to distract us from the huge jerks people are becoming over politics. I had to unfollow and unfriend a bunch of people to, it’s been ridiculous. I can’t wait for The Last Jedi! It’s gonna be a great movie year.

I guessed Dick Van Dyke, who was her husband in the Dick Van Dyke show. So close, yet so far away.

Why are you not allowed in movie theaters? Are you a movie talker? Dinner people don’t think i should be allowed in theaters because i like to remove my shoes. Oh well.

Oh, and guess who played Mary Tyler Moore’s coworker on the Mary Tyler Moore show? Betty White!

If Betty White dies this year, I’m making an anonymous tip for the FBI to look into your whereabouts at her time of death. You’re way too gung ho about her passing away. (What happened to happy positive Joel?.. friggin’ Kentpoint.)

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! I’m not happy about the prospect of her passing away. She’s a beloved American icon! However, it seems as if my psychic gift was a little off the mark, but still very close, which is why I was excited.
