Baconsale Episode 86: Toy Stories

We don’t want to grow up, we are Toys R Us kids! And in this episode we’re talking about our favorite toys, trinkets, playthings and, yes, even dolls from our childhood. Kent and Joel have created a list of their top five favorite gifts they received in the 80s and 90s, as well as the presents they wish Santa had given them — while Jacob’s mind is blown that there were things other than sticks and rocks for children to play with back then.

  2. So my Christmases were pretty awesome. My parents never really had a lot but they went all out for us for Christmas. They were also kind of themed which was cool so here were my top 5 Christmases and the best toys from each one.

    1. 5) Power Rangers! My siblings and I were really into Power Rangers and one Christmas we each got one of the Power Rangers and then I got a full set of the original Zords that could be played with seperately or connected together making a behemoth action figure. I even got the White Ranger’s Brachiosaurus, and the Green Rangers Godzilla like thing that could fire missiles from its fingers… in the show… a feature that wasn’t a part of the toy which was lame.

    3. 3) Superheroes! I got this spiderman that had strings that came out of it’s hand’s and attach to buildings in the playset I got so he could swing. It also had a dumpster you could fill with some slime stuff that you could set up a Doctor Octopus figure next to and kick it in with Spiderman. It was awesome… and ruined the Doctor Octopus figure.

    4. 2) Star Trek! I got the Enterprise E toy and I also got a PC game called Star Trek Armada which was AWESOME!! It was a Star Trek ship battling RTS game and I played it until the Disc wouldn’t read anymore. This is also one of my worst Christmas memories as I got it but our computer didn’t have a good enough graphics card, so I couldn’t play it until my dad got a new graphics card…. it took 2 weeks!! Awful. But it’s a funny memory now.

    5. 1) STAR WARS!!! My friend Spencer and I got a ton of Star Wars ships and action figures one Christmas and it was so much fun. I got the Millenium Falcon with Han Solo, a Tie Advanced fighter with Darth Vader, an A-wing with Wedge Antilles, and a Snow Speeder with a random rebel pilot. I also got a Chewbacca figure and a speeder bike with Endor Luke. I don’t know where any of these are now, pretty sure they’re all broken and missing. I also got a Star Destroyer and a set of like 50 micro machines ships. To a 6 year old kid this was heaven. I watched those movies every chance I got and read every star wars book I could get my hands on. I even tried reading the Heir to the Empire series when I was 7. I got like three chapters in and gave up because it was way over my reading level. Episode 1 came out when I was 9 and it was so cool to me at the time… then episode 2 came out… ruined my childhood. But this Christmas was the best!

      2. It was awesome! I don’t know how my parents did it. My dad was a teacher and my mom worked part time. Our birthdays weren’t as huge but Christmas was awesome.

  8. So many great memories of toys i had or wanted. How did i forget about rollerblades. My bro and i would rollerblade to school, to the movie theater on weekends and in the summer, and when we became teenagers we would play street hockey after scouts in the church parking lot instead of basketball. We would even play street hockey on Friday and Saturday nights till midnight then blade to the 7-11 for big gulps. Once i started driving we got flashlights and a mother friend with a car then we’d park one car at the bottom of a very hilly neighborhood then crab everyone into the other car and drive to the top of the neighborhood and street ski down. The flashlights and wrist guards were our only safety equipment so cars could see us better in the dark. So fun. BTW they were rollerblade brand.
