We decided to take a break from our usual topics of movies and television to discuss something truly important: politics. Ha! Just kidding! We’re going to talk about video games — specifically, the pre-PlayStation era. Years late, but I do agree about the turn-based fighting opinion. It’s quite dumb to me to see “Oh no! I drank a potion and now I’m tooooo tired to block or dodge this attack! Guess I’ll just stand around!” I prefer games in which I have free range of my character for a more skill-based approach.
However, I will say that the Persona series (at least 3 and onward) are very fun turn-based games, because it was a system you can exploit (fully intended) which allows you to have basically endless turns in a row. Very fun once you get the hang of it.

Great episode! Your movie based podcasts are fantastic but this new venture was equally as delightful. I think I would like more of these spin offs in the future.

Joel, I’m a little sad that you hate Final Fantasy, especially as the big movie guy that you are. RPG’s were all about the story, like movies. To me, they always felt like the bridge between books and movies that you got to be immersed into and actually affect the outcome. They’re amazing! My favorite genre of games honestly.

Did you ever play Toejam and Earl? I never played Boogerman, but I think Toejam and Earl is along those lines. I played it at my cousin’s house.

I think the most overrated accessory was the Nintendo Super Scope. I remember getting it for my birthday and all it really was was a glorified Duck Hunt gun.

Good podcast, but I haven’t heard of many of the games and I was never a huge gamer. I think that as soon as my little brother got better than me, I just gave up and let video games be his thing.
